Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire: 3.5/10

It’s certainly a movie. I cannot say anything positive really about Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire; it was one of the most bland movies I’ve seen in a while. I had relatively high expectations after Ghbostbusters: Afterlife was surprisingly entertaining, and the most recent movie was disappointing in comparison. Almost all of the jokes landed flat in spite of a talented comedic cast. The plot was not that interesting, which isn't a shocker for a Ghostbuster movie, but still by low standards the plot was pretty weak. The CGI felt dated, which may have been on purpose to align with the original Ghostbusters’ visuals, but I would have appreciated something that looked like it was made in this century. Additionally, the final fight was lackluster, and very disappointing after a lot of buildup in releasing Garraka from his containment. A surprising weakness of this movie was what I perceived to be poor usage of an impressive cast.

Bill Murray and Finn Wolfhard were hardly in the movie whatsoever, especially the former which only had two real scenes that I could even recall. I don’t remember them giving an explanation as to why he wasn’t more involved like the other original ghostbusters were. And Murray is a talented comedian, which one would think should be utilized heavily in a comedy/fantasy movie. Finn Wolfhard was in the movie more than Murray, but still did not get a lot of screentime, which felt like a waste after being a bright spot in the prior movie. One person who was in the film too much was Paul Rudd, who may have been the least entertaining character in the entire film. Not sure how the writers messed up so much with Rudd, but they made me annoyed everytime Rudd was on screen despite me finding him to be typically pretty entertaining.

The one actor I viewed as a bright spot was Kumail Nanjiani, who should’ve had more screen time. He was the only character with jokes that actually made me chuckle and his character had an interesting backstory that could have been delved into more instead of rushing his discovery of his powers. Considering he would be pretty important in saving the day at the end of the movie, I figured there should have been a bit more time spent in developing the character. But what do I know, I’m just a moron who likes movies.

I would not recommend seeing Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire unless you are an absolute diehard Ghostbusters fan. You will be disappointed you spent money and time seeing this movie, as genuinely less than 10% of the movie was enjoyable.
